Still No Sign of Missing Representatives
Authorities report no sign of missing State Representatives Sanderson and Kruger following their violent disappearances yesterday afternoon. State Police Chief, Colonel Robert A. Williams, told reporters that a State-wide manhunt remains active, and family/friends of the missing Representatives have been fully cooperating with the investigation. Williams told reporters that he remains confident that Sanderson and Kruger are alive, but refused to answer questions about the possibility of ransom demands for the politician’s safe return.

Government Oversight Committee Upholds Ballot Counting Contract
The State Legislature GOC today upheld the Elections Committee decision to award new contracts to MaineTech LLP to provide vote tallying equipment for the upcoming federal election. A Democrat sponsored proposal to reverse the decision failed in a 5-5 tie along party lines. Democrat members argued that the recent abduction of Representatives Sanderson and Kruger should be cause for suspension of the vote, but this suggestion was over-ruled by Senatorial Chair Robert Katz.

Missing Maine Representatives Found Alive – Drugged
Missing Maine Legislators Sanderson and Kruger were found late last night in a run-down motel near New York City, after being missing for over 4 days. The pair were reportedly found together in a compromising position and heavily sedated with recreational drugs. They were assessed in hospital and released after several hours with treatment for minor injuries and withdrawal symptoms.
Representative Kruger has refused comment on the abductions, only briefly indicating that he did not know the motive behind the kidnapping and claiming that he did not see much of his attackers. Representative Sanderson has been very vocal about her descriptions of her abductors, and her disdain for Kruger for being “a weakling and a coward”. Sanderson later recanted her comments about Kruger, claiming that the shock and trauma caused her to impunge a fellow Representative unfairly.

Russian Hackers Fail to Compromise Voting Machines
The Florida Division of Elections today confirmed that an attempted attack by presumed Russian hackers was foiled by computer countermeasures and security teams at their Tallahasse facilities. Spokesperson James Calloway told reporters that a team of heavily armed individuals infiltrated both the State Elections Office and a secure storage facility to the west, directly accessing the server that stores and manages voting machine software. Calloway told reporters that automated countermeasures within the system were alerted and expelled at least two hackers, likely causing severe damage to their hardware. Security teams arrived on site and killed two of the intruders before the suspects escaped on foot. A manhunt in the area is ongoing, although officials admit that the likelihood of finding the culprits is diminishing by the hour.
Despite the seriousness of the intrusion, Mr. Calloway indicated that a full review of the server system reveals no evidence of tampering and officials are confident that the intrusion countermeasures stopped the hackers before any damage could be done.
