Zak walks into the bar with the rest of the team, scans the occupants and sits down a table over from a group of gang members.
“Does it smell like pigs in here?”, Shawn blurts out. Inwardly Zak shakes his head but at least it got the gang members talking. Making some innocuous comment about pigs and money.
Remembering what Vic (Detective Abiatti) said, good place for a drink if you don’t care about the cleanliness of the glass, we all order beer in the bottle other than Mako who orders a pitcher.
Once the beers come, Zak turns his chair toward the gang members.
“So you were the fine folks who liberated the pigs and created the traffic congestion.”
“What’s it to ya dandelion?”, the lead ganger sneers.
“Oh, nothing really, just curious as to where the profit is in that? I mean, you wouldn’t just do that for the giggles.”
“But it was funny as hell.”, adds Shawn.
“Damn straight.”, the ganger straightens up and smiles.
“Well figured you might want to make a bit more money. I’m willing to pay if you can tell me where the human and the elf, who paid you for the job, are hiding.”
“What’s it worth to ya?”, the ganger leans forward intrigued.
“Well”, Zak takes a sip of his beer and thinks how he wants the negotiations to play out. Maybe let him think he’s got the advantage, “I am in a bit of a hurry…”
“Two thousand!”, the ganger blurts out trying to take the advantage.
“Oh sorry”, Zak starts to reach a hand toward his earbud, “My sincere apologies but I really need to take this call. Tony, what can I do for you?… Yes, in the middle of it… Look tell Guido, I’ll have it… Yes, I’m sure, they’ll talk… No they won’t pay, Knight Errant only wants to look good and to make examples of folks.”
“Sorry again”, Zak turns back to the ganger, “So where were we, oh right, you were trying to rob me blind. 250.”
The ganger looks at his buddies and starts to get to his feet.
“Know any safe houses around here?”, Zak looks over at Shawn.
“Sure, a few in the row houses a couple of blocks over. A couple of apartments in an abandoned…”
“Look”, Zak interrupts when he sees the expression of worry on the ganger’s face, “Your information is getting less valuable by the second. If Knight Errant gets it before I do from their investigation on the street, its worth nothing to me.”
The ganger looks between his buddies unsure of himself.
“400. Last offer.”, Zak looks towards Mako, “I’d really hate to go back to Guido empty handed.”
