“Oh, sorry. Any IC there?” He could hear the anxiety in Tina’s voice. She never even went into VR any more, not since she’d been burned.
No, it’s just one of those Firefly things, gh0st sent. Hardly any protection in ‘em. Hang on.
Gh0st worked quietly for a few moments, then dropped out of VR. “All done,” he said. “I cross-wired the arm and leg controls.”
“Oh!” Tina snickered. “So if anyone’s riding that guy, as soon as they make him do something he’ll fall over. Nice.”
“Yeah. Should take some pressure off the guys.” Gh0st peeked out of the van window, then climbed into the driver’s seat. “Sounds like the action is moving upstairs. Time to move the van.”
“Be careful!” Tina said. “Keep your head down.”
“Don’t worry, we have a troll.”
Just then, someone ran out into the street and there was a burst of gunfire from the far end of the block. “Shit!” exclaimed gh0st.
“What is it? Is that gunfire?” Tina was starting to freak out, gh0st could tell from her voice.
“Umm, it looks like they got past our troll. Hang on.” Gh0st hit the gas and steered the van at the crouching figure who was exchanging shots with Zak. He felt a solid thud as the man was knocked flying.
“No worries,” said gh0st. “Looks like we’re about done here. It might take a while to wrap everything up. Should I pick up a pizza after?”
“Great,” Tina said. “Love you.”
“Love you too,” replied gh0st, and ended the call.
Gh0st switched to the team channel. “Who did I just run over?” he asked. “And what happened to our troll?”
